THINGS TO EXPECT:
SPIDER MITES will continue troublesome. Morning rinsing of foliage with forceful, fine spray of water at. least weekly through May is helpful. Pesticides may be necessary.
CITRUS THRIPS cause scarred, distorted leaves. Spraying yard trees has not been practical. If done wait until after bloom.

SEASONAL LEAF DROP. an Carob, African Sumac, pines and other trees as weather warms up.
WOOLY APHIDS on Ash trees. They're moldy appearing pests that infest undersides of leaves causing downward curling.
ASHWORMS are gray, less than an inch long, night feeders and crawl under bark of limbs and trunk during the day.
PECAN APHIDS. Control with pesticides may be necessary.
LEAF FOOTED PLANT BUGS on deciduous fruit and nut trees. Nymphs (young), which resemble small pink spiders, are easier controlled than the gray-black adults.
FALSE CHINCH BUGS in St. Augustine lawns. Control with pesticides may be necessary.
MILDEW ON GRAPES. Treat with sulfur every two weeks. Discontinue when temperatures warm up into the 90s.
MIGRATION OF INSECTS in to landscapes as winter weeds and desert vegetation dries up.

THINGS TO DO:
PLANT CITRUS TREES. Young 2-5 year old trees transplant most successfully. Larger older trees are more costly and suffer more shock. Protect bark from sunburn.
DON'T LET WEEDS G0 TO SEED-- Attach a good clipping catcher and mow off seed heads.
DE-THATCH BERMUDA GRASS LAWNS, (including Hybrids) by verticutting, power raking or scalping (close mowing). Fertilize about early May.
PREVENT PROSTRATE SPURGE by applying recommended pre-emergence herbicides immediately after de-thatching in areas where this weed is troublesome.
PLANT NEW SUMMER LAWNS after nighttime temperatures warm up into the upper 60 s.
PROTECT TENDER BARK OF TREE TRUNKS AND LIMBS FROM SUNBURN. Apply white tree paint.
FERTILIZE BERMUDA GRASS LAWNS during late April or early May.
YELLOWING PALM FOLIAGE could be seasonal maturing of lower, older fronds, Nitrogen or Iron deficiency.
